About
Ainscough Crane Hire Ltd was established in 1976 by Mr Gerald Ainscough, drawing on expertise and experiences during the twenty years his family had been involved in the crane industry. Since 1984 the Company has been run by three of his sons and has expanded to become the largest privately owned crane hire company in the UK.
Head Office and Main Operations are based in Standish. In 1994 the Company purchased a 43 acre site in Leyland, where the Engineering Services Division and National Training Centre now operate. Since 1995, additional acquisitions now mean that the company operates from all major locations throughout the UK.
Two of the largest acquisitions included the purchase of Initial GWS (formerly Grayston, White and Sparrow) in 2000, making Ainscough the UK's largest privately owned Crane Hire Company. Then, just two years later in December 2002, the Ainscough brothers purchased the mobile crane business of Baldwin Industrial Services from the receivers with a new combined fleet in excess of 600 cranes with capacities from 10 to 1000 tonnes capacity and over 800 employees.
