European Parliament
Standish is part of the North West England constituency of the European Parliament, which currently elects 8 MEPs. Since 2009 these have been:

- Saj Karim (Liberal Democrat 2004–2007, Conservative 2007 onwards)

UK Parliament
Standish is part of the Wigan Constituency of the UK Parliament. The Member of Parliament for Wigan is Lisa Nandy (Labour), who won the seat in the 2010 General Election, with a 10,487 majority (21,404 votes, 48.5%, -9.6% on previous). The previous incumbent was Neil Turner.

The Standish with Langtree Ward was formed following boundary changes in 2004, where parts of the previous Aspull-Standish and Langtree Wards were merged to form the Standish with Langtree Ward.
