First mention of the Standish placename

The Standish Chronological History Project

Standish was not recorded in the Domesday Survey compiled by the Normans in 1086, although it came within the royal hundred of Leyland. Prior to the conquest all the lands between Ribble and the Mersey were Crown possessions. They were subsequently granted to Count Roger, a relation of the Conqueror; but when he lost these by forfeiture in the early 12th century they passed to Stephen, who later became King.
