Four years after he inherited the manor, in 1660, his only son, William, married Cecilia, daughter and heiress of Sir Robert Bindloss of Borwick. This marriage again augmented the family estates and another settlement of the manor took place. In the following year a son was born to William and Cecilia. He was named Edward and was baptised in Standish Church, but did not live very long. Later another son was born and was named Ralph.
Among the Standish papers are two books which had belonged to Lady Bindloss and in them are directions for working with different grades of silk, presumably for embroidery. There is also a reference to passing pieces of bride cake nine times through the wedding ring before being distributed. In the Middle Ages it was the custom for crowds to flock to the church yard from which the bride sold cake and ale at exhorbitant prices which helped the couple set up house.
In 1664, Edward Standish recorded a pedigree. There was also, some time later, a Dugdale Visitation. This was an official visit by registrars to landed families to check and record pedigrees and land holdings. This account is still preserved and gives a record of all the Standish estates at this date. Five years later Edward made a settlement of his estates and in 1670 the confiscated lands of the Langtree family were sold by order of Parliament and came into the posession of the Standishes. Some financial difficulty beset Edward for in 1677 his trustees had a private act passed to enable some of his lands to be sold in order to pay his debts, and as a result lands in Chadderton, Royton and Chorley were sold. Edward Standish of Worthington purchased some land in Lymm from his namesake of Standish during these transactions. Edward died in 1682 and, although he and his wife, Frances, had been classed as recusants, he was buried in Standish Churchyard. He was succeeded by his son, William, who was then forty five years of age. [1]
