Standish Community Forum 5 Year Plan (2000-2004)

Main Goal
To maintain an open forum dealing with the concerns and expectations that affect the quality of life for the community of Standish.
Principle Strategic Goals
- Merge the management of the Community Centre into the Standish Forum
- Regain the Charity Status
- Negotiate revised new lease arrangements
- Expand the use of the Community Centre
Improve and develop the liaison with all local Organisations and Agencies
- Successfully deliver the millennium programme
- Develop new and innovative community programmes
- Co-ordinate and implement the outcomes of the Community Mapping Project
- Promote community events and competitions
- Continue and expand the "Standish in Bloom" programme
- Celebrate the annual "Lancashire Day"
Continue publication of Standish Community Forum Newsletter
- Ensure that every Standish household receives a paper copy
- Broaden the scope and range of high quality articles
- Continue co-operation with the Standish Courier
- Introduce an electronic interactive Internet Newsletter and web page
Widen the representation of the Standish Community Committee
- Introduction of additional skills in order to deliver the projected increase work load
- Continue to produce and deliver:
- Foot Path Walk Series
- Post Cards and Calendar
- Plaques for historical sites
- items of interest that are relevant
- Create a library of "Photographs for the Future" (co-operate with a Photographic Society)
- Launch an archive/scrapbook record of Standish township (seek active partners)
- Revive the Conservation Group
- Produce a Standish Guide (perhaps with the Courier)
- Publish a comprehensive history of Standish
- Support archaeological study of Standish (GMAU)
Create an active partnership with Local Authority and others as appropriate
- Seek sources of financial funding from both public and private organisations
- Ensure that Standish is seen as a progressive and positive community
- Ensure that all new local developments recognise the views and opinions of the residents
- Maintains a strong link with the Police and other public services
- Share our successes and expectations using the local and national media
- Review linkages with other local and national organisations
- Consider the "twinning" with communities in Europe, North America or elsewhere
Continue to strengthen the co-operation with our Schools and Churches
- Encourage the children to participate in local activities
- Devise and deliver "Activity Events" for children and young adults
- Continue support for Young Person's Forum
- Continue to develop Ashfield Park as a centre for recreational pursuits
- Seek the views and opinions of the young people during the planning phase of new projects
- Invest in our young people at the earliest and continue during their development phases
Development and implement an integrated Information Technology (IT) programme
- Broaden the local means of communication
- Solicit the co-operation and assistance of our young people
- Ask and analyse the "wants and needs" of our community
- Encourage the community to review the opportunities available from IT
- Review the benefits of an electronic community
Ensure that time and consideration is given to the future
- Address the increasing flow of traffic through the village centre
- On street parking
- Lack of parking in the village centre
- Provision of cycle paths
- Continue support of Bridleways
- Provisions of "safe walking routes" to schools
- That all future new housing developments provide safe play areas
- Review the role of "village shops"
- Ensure that sufficient crossings and traffic islands are strategically placed
- Consideration is given to the re-introduction of a Standish railway station
- Review the needs of Public Transport
- Encourage all local sports and leisure facilities are fully integrated into the community
- Encourage inward investment of businesses that will provide employment for our young
- Encourage the growing hotel sector to support the community with local literature
- Address the needs of non-working mothers to upgrade their working skills
