There are two news organisations with publications covering Standish. Standish Media Services, who produce the Wigan Courier (originally the Standish Courier), and Lancashire Publications Ltd., owned by Johnson Press, who produce the Wigan Evening Post (daily), the Wigan Observer (weekly), and the Wigan Reporter (free weekly).

Wigan Courier

The Wigan Courier is a free independent tabloid newspaper with a current (2007) circulation of 32,000 copies per issue distributed throughout the Wigan area every 3 weeks. It was first published in September 1998 as a 12-page newspaper circulated to just 5,400 homes. The Courier was by the end of 2001 a 3 issue 64-page full colour monthly newspaper, circulating to over 17,000 homes in Standish, Shevington and North Wigan.
